Laurie B. Kazenoff is a tax attorney with 25 years of experience, including approximately 8 years with the Internal Revenue Service.  From 1987 to 1988, Ms Kazenoff was an IRS Estate and Gift Tax attorney, auditing both federal estate returns and gift tax returns.  From 1988 to 1995,  Ms. Kazenoff became a Senior Tax Attorney with the Internal Revenue Service's Office of Chief Counsel representing the IRS in cases before the United States Tax Court, advising the Examination and Collection Divisions, and rendering tax opinions.  In 1995, Ms. Kazenoff opened her own private tax law practice.  During 2006 - 2007, she was a full time attorney adviser for tax controversy to the accounting firm of Anchin, Block & Anchin, LLP in New York City.  She continues to conduct her private practice in tax controversy in Huntington, New York.  Ms. Kazenoff has an Honors B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania (1982), a J.D. from Temple University School of Law (1985), and completed her LL.M. (Taxation) from Temple University School of Law at New York University School of Law (1989).  Ms. Kazenoff is admitted to practice in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and before the U.S. Tax Court.

Ms. Kazenoff's practice concentrates in IRS and New York State tax controversies including Examinations, Appeals, Tax Court litigation, Collection actions including addressing IRS Notices of Lien, Levies and New York State warrants, Collection Due Process and Equivalency Hearings. Ms. Kazenoff has represented high profile and high net worth individuals and entities in investment banking, law, real estate, medicine, entertainment, fashion, media, construction, manufacturing, sports and technology involving all types of Federal and New York State tax issues.  Her practice also includes Employee plan benefits and tax consulting, Estate and Gift tax planning, Partnership and Corporate tax issues, Responsible Person/Trust Fund Liability cases, New York State Residency issues and Sales and Use tax issues.  Ms. Kazenoff handles ERISA cases, including pension plan qualification issues and IRS and Department of Labor Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration investigations regarding pension plan compliance.  She also advises non-profit organizations, health care providers, private foundations and provides general tax consulting for individuals and small businesses. Ms. Kazenoff represents clients in cases before the IRS and NYS Examination Division, Collection Division, Appeals, District Counsel and U.S. Tax Court.


 

Ms. Kazenoff has handled a number of high profile cases in the North Atlantic Region, but no case is too small or too large.  Although while at IRS Chief Counsel she litigated cases before the U.S. Tax Court, in private practice she has resolved cases favorably for the client before the case ever went to court, avoiding costly litigation expenses for her clients.  Ms Kazenoff uses her knowledge and experience as a former IRS attorney to help streamline the process for her clients, avoiding unnecessary and burdensome costs to her clients.
